The sweetest little book for girls. This is the type of book that will stick with my little as she grows up.

A Girl Like You challenges young girls to be who they really are, to like the things they like, to be who they want to be, to try what they want to try, to defy stereotypes (gender, racial, cultural ect).

Stereotypes can threaten how children evaluate themselves, how they see themselves, how they do in school, how they choose to present themselves which ultimately results in a path they didn’t even want to take. It’s a huge problem. Stereotypes are more likely to be influential throughout development with children which as they grow veers them away from who they are & what they want to become. Stereotypes can give girls the sense that they don’t belong, it can create a vicious cycle. Girls might miss out on opportunities because of the assumption that they shouldn’t be interested in a certain thing or do a certain thing.

This book encourages young girls to rise up, be who they are, like what they want, play what sports they like, be brave & much more. Just the first line of the book is such a deep message, “There are billions and billions and billions of people in the world. But you are the only you there is! And the world needs a girl like you.”

This book is everything I want my child to be as she grows up. This will teach her to be strong, be confident, be brave, be herself & thats all I could ask for.
