TOGETHER WE CAN! This book is one of my favorites! My little loves screaming "together we can" at the top of her lungs.
If you are looking for a book all about friendship, this is the one for you! This book helps to show children that making friends is easy. This is a super inclusive book which is what we strive for in my household.
This book teaches to share, be patient, lend a hand, say sorry, forgive, and that everyone is different and incredible in their own way. The one thing I am super adamant about is showing my daughter all types of beautiful skin tones, all disabilities, all cultures in her books. We may not go out much but I know when we do and we cross paths with someone that looks different than her, she doesn't stare or ask questions or simply make that child feel uncomfortable. I have been seeing a lot of videos lately with white children in complete shock when they run into children that look different then themselves. That should never happen, we have so many tools to make sure our kids know that everyone is different and beautiful in their own way. Our differences are what makes us special.
This book hits some very important aspects for kids getting to the age of making friends. I will list some of my favorites.
Friends that speak different languages.
Friends that look the same and friends that don't.
Friends with different hair.
Friends that have gadgets and friends that don't. (I love the term gadgets in place of wheelchair ect.)
Friends that may only have one friend while some friends have lots. The author also added in some people may have no friends and this is where you can be a friend too!
Friends that live close and friends that live far away.
Friends that you meet everywhere you go.
Friends that are insects and animals.
The book teaches children that there is no right or wrong way to make friends. This shows children despite your differences you can still be friends and get along. The author also added some cute little sayings in the back and front cover so make sure to take the dust cover off to read them. My little loves them so much!
The last page is my favorite, "All over the world and from since time began, we show every day that... together WE CAN! By making new friends, we can all come together. Be loving and kind you'll have friends FOREVER"
