Oh how I love this book. If you have a girl, please buy this!

Gender stereotypes run deep in the work force, from gender to race to culture. Stereotypes are powerful. They often influence the types of careers people see themselves in and ultimately choose. We see gender stereotypes in our schools. This affects many young girls at a young age.

I know that when I was in school, maybe 2-3 girls took wood shop class. It was the stigma that only men took those classes. We see girls just starting out in school are absorbing some of society's stereotypes notions and young girls also choosing activities based on these stereotypes. Young girls have been thought to go after careers that are more feminine that requires less time and a job that is flexible, but not all women want that.

The root of these problems often start with the stereotypes that are imposed into children from childhood. This comes from their parents, their relatives, their teachers, and finally and most importantly lack of representation. All children deserve to grow up and achieve their dreams regardless of gender.

This book shows young girls they can do so many jobs, so many jobs that have the stereotype of "men only" jobs. Some examples shown in the book are, an engineer, firefighter, judge, mechanic, neurosurgeon, quantum physicist, software engineer, veterinarian, yoga instructor and zoologist.

So much outdated information still pushing our girls to not follow their dreams. Girls are not born to simply get married, have children and stay home. Woman have the same right as men to do what they want, work where they want, play what sports they want, ect.

We need to show our young girls that they can do anything. Support them in any way we can. Do not judge our girls for the route they want to take with THEIR life. Start showing them at a young age that girls can rise up and do the same things that men can.

It's our job as parents to end the gender stereotypes and this is a great book to start!
