I am obsessed with this book! If you have a cake lover like my daughter and you also love to celebrate differences in people, this is the book for you!
I originally bought this book simply for the cover. My little is obsessed with all things cakes. When I read it for the first time I was blown away. The story if not what I expected at all.
The book starts out in black and white. The main character Sammi loves baking cakes and she is sick of baking the same cake everyday in Samesville. In Samesville everything is well, the same. The day was always black, white and gray. The trees, houses, the dogs, the clothes and even the people as well. One night Sammi puts her one vanilla cake recipe under her pillow and makes a wish. When she wakes up nothing is the same! Colors everywhere! Everyone is different! The first thing Sammi wants to do is find her friends and bake a cake.
This book celebrates the differences in people. Could you imagine if everyone was the same? The world would be so boring, just like Samesville.
This story shows imagination, dreams. This story celebrates diversity and individuality. I love how you can make such a fun story around cakes but also include some very important details like diversity.
The pictures are so fun! The story explodes with colors when she wakes up. Everyone has a smile on their face. They all bake a cake together and in the end Sammi says one thing, "And she knew one thing for sure.. Things would NEVER be the same again".
