This book just fell into my lap & I am so glad it did! Let's start off by saying the illustrations are just beautiful. I am a sucker for beautiful illustrations.

Harlem Grown teachers the youth that it doesn't matter how run down a place is because when you come together as a community you can fix anything up. Sure there will be times when you fail & want to give up but if you keep trying you'll get it, especially when working together. Working together.. it's so important. We can do so much change. This book shows how one little idea can lead to something much bigger.

Fun fact, this is a true story! Harlem Grown is an independent, non-profit organization! It was founded in 2011. Healthy habits start young! (I love that phrase, it's something I struggle with). I am not from New York but if you are local I would seriously check this out! They have summer camps, Saturday's on the farm, yoga, educational farm tours & more! I read all this information right from their site, www.Harlemgrown.org.

When I picked this book up I was not expecting it to have such a big impact. I thought it was going to be a cute picture book about gardening but it has such a bigger meaning & is truly an amazing program for the community. If I'm ever in New York, I will 110% have to stop by and visit!
